32% of prisoners in Australia have a disability
The Link between Disability and Justice System Involvement:

Data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare reveals that approximately 32% of prisoners in Australia have a disability, including intellectual disabilities, mental health conditions, and cognitive impairments. These individuals often face significant barriers to employment, education, and community integration, increasing their vulnerability to criminal activities.

Furthermore, the NDIS Quarterly Report highlights the alarming number of NDIS participants who have contact with the justice system. This intersection of disability and justice system involvement underscores the urgent need for specialised programs that address the complex needs of this population.
